Storks!

They like high places. Notice there are several nests on the tower.

  1. Moira loves storks, so this seems like a good place to leave my (extended) comment.

You picked a good week to leave, at least weather-wise, as the weather here has turned nasty, at least by Albuquerque standards. Highs only in the upper 40s, ten degrees colder than normal ( I see in one of your posts that Wynette was wearing a puffer jacket, so maybe the temperatures where you are aren’t all that warm either); but more to the point it is windy, breezy, blustery (take your pick), and has been for several days, and more is predicted, even a chance of some snow showers, though it seems unlikely.

Charlie didn’t describe your taxi two-step, but we all know your walking strategy, so we get the picture. Where did you actually start? Did you walk out of SahagĂșn, or take a taxi to Bercianos del Real Camino and start there the next morning? (I gather that you just changed trains in Palencia, but had enough time for a lunch and stop at the post office; or did you have to overnight there?)

    1. We were thrilled to see the storks on our first day of walking. So much fun to spot them.

I’m not sorry to miss that Albuquerque weather. Or the pinion pollen that will be intensifying soon! It’s been quite cold here. We’ve been waking up to freezing temperatures. Luckily not a whole lot of wind. Slightly breezy. So far beautiful sunshine but I think we are in for some rain soon.

We did take a taxi to Bercianos. Otherwise, if we had walked it as originally planned we would have been a day behind and it turns out, at our slow pace, we have very little wiggle room in our schedule.

Great to hear from you, Henry!

    2. We saw more storks today, gleaning the fields. One guidebook mentioned the little ones will be there in mid May. I guess they are building the nests now and fattening themselves up for reproduction.
