I think of slate as an expensive building material but they use it all over the Galicia and the parts of Leon we were just in. And you see it by the side of the road. I guess it is not expensive here.

I am remembering a lot of slate in Scotland and since there were mostly very grey, drizzly days, the slate made everything look especially bleak.
But I’m a big fan of using the resources at hand and some of those slate roofs, fences and siding are quite beautiful.
