Santo André is St Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. If you look carefully at the altar, to the right of St. Andrew is a cross in the shape of an X. He was crucified on an X-shaped cross, and this is St. Andrew’s symbol — if you look at paintings and sculptures of St. Andrew he is usually depicted as being crucified, or, like this altar, with the X-shaped cross nearby. (Google St. Andrew by Mattia Preti to see an example.)
The Scottish flag, called the Scottish saltire, is light blue with a cross of St. Andrew in white.
