On our 2013 Camino we were excited to see them, looking just like in the movie. And there were a lot of them. This year we have seen only a few and they seemed old and deteriorating. One we saw was being taken down and hauled away. I guess new technology has made them obsolete. In previous Caminos (more northern ones) we saw the hay in wheels that were enclosed in plastic, keeps them drier I guess. In fact, during a previous Caminos I uncovered a sinister plot involving them. I\u2019ll say no more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back in the 1960s in LA I used to watch wrestling from the Olympic Auditorium. And \u201cWhoa, Nellie!\u201d Dick Lane was a great announcer and Gorgeous George really put it to the pencil necks. I don\u2019t remember him wrestling at the Olympic but these photos make me think of Haystacks Calhoun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wynchar.com\/c26\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/img_5796.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"495\" height=\"526\" src=\"https:\/\/wynchar.com\/c26\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/img_5796.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-884\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wynchar.com\/c26\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/img_5796.jpg 495w, https:\/\/wynchar.com\/c26\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/img_5796-282x300.jpg 282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 85vw, 495px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These guys were all fascinating characters. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you saw \u201cThe Way\u201d you might remember the scene in the haystacks.
