On the Wall

The wall around Lucca is completely preserved. The top of the wall has been made into a wide walking and biking path. It is well used by both locals and tourists but not too crowded. It is 2.6 miles around. Here is a view from one spot.

We ran into a medieval reenactment group while walking around the wall and then saw it later with a drum corps walking around town,

Not That Old

Wynette remembered this place from when we were in Lucca 13 years ago, still in the same place, on a pretty circular piazza. You can see where I keep by passport and credit cards. They were having a big flower show in the piazza, and it was a busy Sunday in Lucca.

It Goes Both Ways

The VF connects to the Camino to Santiago. In fact, they split at Pavia, where we began. Some people go from Rome to Santiago. A few days ago, we passed two guys going the opposite direction as us, who were doing just that. They said it would take several months. We found out they were walking to Santiago when Wynette asked, as a joke, “To Santiago?” We were amazed when they said “yes”. They were 15 or 20 years younger than us. Looked strong.
