Post by Wynette: One reason we decided to stay here an extra day is that we like our hotel. It is far from perfect: terrible wifi, few electrical outlets for charging all our devices, small room, thin walls (our neighbors were noisy a couple of hours last evening). It’s a slightly shabby, old-fashioned, once grand hotel. Big lobby, etc. Several guidebooks recommended it. Google reviews were mediocre. But we couldn’t find anything better. What we do like is the old-fashioned grandness, our bright sunny corner room with ocean views, comfortable beds, clean, location in the center of town.

Moira calls those places, when we stay at them in Britain, “faded elegance.” Though to be honest, your place looks a lot nicer than some of the faded elegance places we have stayed at in Britain (on the Isle of Skye… and other places in Scotland).
That’s a good description. Would be fun to see the hotel at its prime. Not sure when that would have been.
