Room with a view

No desk to blog at, but a little table

Post by Wynette:

Once again we find ourselves in a room with a view. The thing is, we are usually the only ones in these hotels and, of course, they give us the best room. We are in O Porto de Bares. A very tiny town only 1.3 miles from a lighthouse that marks the northernmost point in Spain. We are in the only hotel in town. It is costing us 35 euros. And it’s a charming, sunny, spotless room. And, the hotel restaurant has good food and the BEST coffee.

It’s great to have a shelf for the toiletries

  1. It is interesting that they are giving you the nicest room. In America, typically, if you are the first couple at a restaurant they try to give you a bad table — at least that is what we’ve found. The logic is that they don’t want a later customer, who comes when the restaurant is almost full, to leave because the only tables left are near the bathroom or kitchen.

Whenever this happened to my mother she would insist on a better table, and would say, privately, “my money is as good as anybody’s.”

    1. These days when everything runs on reviews (both on Google or on booking.com) they want you to be happy and I’m sure that’s why they always give us a good room. And what do they have to lose? Chances are there won’t be any more guests that night. But I can certainly see how it would be very different in a restaurant that expects to fill up, especially many years ago before people could just leave and write a bad review about a place.
