Down by the Old Mill Stream

There was no sign about this, a private residence I assume. Doesn’t seem like the best idea to have a stream running under your house.

    1. Over the top of it…which sounds worse than under it. (And it leaked almost continuously until membrane roofing was invented decades after FLW’s death.)

    2. I thought about mentioning Falling Water but decided it was too different. I figured this was a mill first and the house was added later. I would not be surprised if some local historical preservation rules prevent them from changing anything about the mill part. I heard once the Falling Water was unpleasant to live in because everything was so damp. Vaguely related: a friend of mine in the Bay Area used to live in a WWII minesweeper docked in SF. He said is was pretty damp and cold but it was a very cool place to live. It was build of wood with no ferrous metal for the mines to detect, brass nails and such.

    1. We have been trying to figure out if there is something that keeps it from flooding. I cannot imagine that wouldn’t happen sometimes.
