With farm tools. We just happened upon this in a tiny little town. A closeup and across the street.

View out the window. Monteriggioni is a fortified hill town with the wall mostly preserved.

We came across a nice little pilgrim rest area with tables, benches, blister supplies, even a water dish for your dog. It did make us feel welcome. The VF is still lightly traveled but it seems to be growing. Marco, the pizza guy, thought it was growing 10% a year or more.

This is the only time we have seen this one. It should be the international standard, anyone could figure it out.

The wall around Lucca is completely preserved. The top of the wall has been made into a wide walking and biking path. It is well used by both locals and tourists but not too crowded. It is 2.6 miles around. Here is a view from one spot.

We ran into a medieval reenactment group while walking around the wall and then saw it later with a drum corps walking around town,

Wynette remembered this place from when we were in Lucca 13 years ago, still in the same place, on a pretty circular piazza. You can see where I keep by passport and credit cards. They were having a big flower show in the piazza, and it was a busy Sunday in Lucca.

After 20 some days. A friendly passerby asked if we wanted a picture together. And, chickens seem to be a big motif here and on the Caminos.

As we were leaving this bar the barista asked us to come to this room and sign the wall. Hundreds of pilgrims had signed it. Here are some of them:
