Hazelnut Mousse

Post by Wynette: We had this at lunch today with our menú del día. They usually just tell you what are the several things available for dessert so there’s no time to look something up if you haven’t heard of it. She said mousse de avellana. We asked what that meant but she didn’t know it in English or how to describe it. We decided to give it a try anyway. (How can you go wrong when it’s mousse anything?) It sure was good. While we were eating it we still weren’t sure what it was but hazelnut was one of our guesses. We knew some kind of nut. Later I asked her to spell it for us and then we had Google translate it. Sure enough. Hazelnut Mousse.

San Vicente de la Barquera to Unquera, Thursday, May 3

Post by Wynette: We walked 9.4 miles today. We thought we’d stop about 2 miles sooner but the two places to stay at that point were not open. We didn’t mind. We were feeling good after our day off yesterday so we kept on trucking. It was a beautiful walk even though it was all inland once we left San Vicente. Crazy weather. We woke up to a beautiful sunrise. Didn’t expect that since forecast was for cloudy (but no rain) all day. Then, shortly after we started walking it started raining. It rained for 2 or 3 hours. It wasn’t a downpour, but the hardest rain we’ve walked in. After a bit of that, you are glad to find a bar to warm up and dry out in. (Continue reading after photo.)

Finally the sun came out again. Here we are crossing under the big autopista (super highway).

Shrine

Post by Wynette: We have seen very few shrines on this trip. We saw this one today.
